EADS North America sponsors a unique photographic exhibition honoring the U.S. soldier

August 8, 2007

A dramatic photographic exhibition of American soldiers from the Civil War to today’s conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan is being sponsored on a multi-year U.S. tour by EADS North America, beginning with presentations in Arkansas, North Carolina, Louisiana, Illinois and the Women’s Military Memorial in Arlington, Virginia.

The 116 photographs in the exhibit, entitled: The American Soldier – A Photographic Tribute, were selected from approximately 5,000 images, capturing the essence of U.S. foot soldiers in action from the introduction of cameras on the battlefield to today’s era of instant digital pictures.

The photographic exhibit covers Americans in the Civil War, Spanish-American War, Boxer Rebellion, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq.

“There is no better way to convey the bravery, sacrifice and humanity of our soldiers from current and past generations than with this collection of poignant images,” said Ralph D. Crosby, Jr., Chairman and CEO of EADS North America. “We are proud to sponsor The American Soldier exhibition as it tours the United States over the next several years.”

The exhibition’s images include a Union Army women’s volunteer unit in the Civil War, infantrymen reacting to the loss of a comrade after a battle in Korea, a tearful staff sergeant at a ceremony commemorating the 9/11 attacks, and soldiers on patrol in the streets of Baghdad.

The American Soldier exhibition was created by its curator and producer, Cyma Rubin, who also directed and produced the 2000 Emmy Award documentary “Moment of Impact: Stories of the Pulitzer Prize Photographs.”
